WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction is a common cosmetic procedure used to address localized fat deposits. For individuals with localized fat deposits despite diet and exercise, liposuction can help eliminate these areas of fat. Liposuction surgery is, in short, the removal of fat tissue from specific areas of the body. Liposuction is not a weight loss method.
Will there be any scarring after liposuction?
The entry holes for cannulas (metal tubes used for liposuction) are usually 4-6 mm. The scars left behind are barely noticeable. The scars from this surgery are negligible.
Which areas are suitable for liposuction?
It is now possible to remove fat deposits from many areas of the body, such as the chin, cheeks, neck, upper inner arms, breasts, chest, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, and back of the legs, using vacuum suction. It can also be used as a complementary procedure in surgeries such as tummy tucks, thigh lifts, arm lifts, breast reduction, etc.
HOW MANY LITERS OF FAT CAN BE REMOVED DURING LIPOSUCTION? CAN LIPOSUCTION BE REPEATED?
It is recommended that no more than 5-6 liters of fat be removed without compromising the patient’s balance and bodily functions. If the areas where liposuction is performed are extensive, a second session of surgery may be performed 6 months later, depending on the patient’s follow-up.
IS THERE PAIN DURING OR AFTER LIPOSUCTION SURGERY?
The pain experienced during surgery is not severe due to the small size of the incisions made for the cannulas. Pain relievers may be used at the doctor’s recommendation for patients who experience significant pain. Due to the administration of a local anesthetic solution to the tissues during surgery, it is relatively difficult for the patient to feel pain during the procedure and in the early postoperative period.
What Should You Pay Attention to After Liposuction Surgery?
The careful use of the special corset recommended to the patient as described is important for the outcome of the surgery. The patient should not remove the recommended special corset at will. Doing so may cause uneven healing and poor appearance in the future. In the early postoperative period, the patient should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity. Depending on the procedure performed, the surgeon may recommend manual lymphatic drainage massage. This can be effective in promoting rapid drainage of edema and achieving better results.
IS THERE A LOT OF SWELLING AND EDEMA AFTER LIPOSUCTION? WHEN DOES IT GO AWAY?
The areas where fat is removed fill with blood and fluid for a while. However, this swelling begins to subside shortly after the surgery. It disappears completely within approximately 3-6 months. For this reason, patients cannot see the difference in weight and the change in their bodies immediately after the surgery.
